Feeling nervous about your first Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class? That’s completely normal — and honestly, it's a good sign. It means you care, you're curious, and you're stepping into something new that might just change your life.
At The Grappling Garden, we specialize in helping beginners feel confident, welcome, and excited to grow. Whether you're here for fitness, self-defense, mindset, or just to try something new, here’s what you can expect from your very first class.
âś… What to Bring
You don’t need to worry about buying gear before your first class — we’ve got you covered.
Clothing: Wear athletic shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or rashguard. Avoid clothing with zippers or buttons.
Water bottle: You’ll be moving, sweating, and learning. Hydration is your friend.
Optional: A towel and sandals (you’ll train barefoot on the mats).
If you decide to continue after your free trial, we’ll guide you on getting your first gi or no-gi gear — and yes, we include some items in your intro membership!

Every class at The Grappling Garden is structured with intention — blending physical training with mindset development.
Warm-Up: Gentle movement, games, and drills to get you familiar with the space.
Skill Development: You’ll explore positions and techniques through live games — not repetitive drilling. You’ll learn by doing.
Cool Down & Reflection: Time to reset, breathe, and take in what you learned.
Our coaches and more experienced students are here to help you every step of the way.
